Consultations

ave questions?  Want to make certain everyone is on the same page?  We can help!

Consultations are an excellent way to ensure that everyone responsible for a child's growth and education (the team) is working together and is clear on the goals and objectives of other team members.  Sharing history, behavioral knowledge, progress notes, and strategies for successfully working with a child and his family can significantly impact that child's progress.

Consultations are available at the request of a family who would like The Storybook Center to collaborate and/or discuss their family's needs with other family professionals.  Consultations may also be requested by professionals; however, if the professional wishes to consult on a particular Storybook student, The Storybook Center is not permitted to do so unless the family has signed a "Consent to Share Information" form permitting them to do so.

The Storybook Center's staff member will accompany families to doctor appointments, other therapy appointments, etc. at their request.  The Storybook Center staff can participate in phone consultations, if a family prefers, and will attend a meeting, including an IFSP or IEP, with a school district.

Sometimes it is helpful if the pediatrician and the instructor at the center can share information.  Likewise, if a child is seeing another therapist, it can be useful for that therapist and the child's teacher at the center to share information about the child's progress in a collaborative effort to determine strategies for creating a more consistent approach between the different service providers and the family.

Professionals may request consultations about implementing an appropriate program for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.  Professionals may also request a consultation on a particular case or client of theirs.  The Storybook Center's Director is credentialed to consult on language and literacy educational and environmental situations, as well as on special needs services and the implementation of such services. School districts may request a consultation at an IFSP or IEP, Due Process hearing, etc.

The Storybook Center will consider taking on the overflow of other programs and private practices per request.

Not sure if we can help?  Give us a call or send us an email.  If we can't help you, we'll refer you  to someone who can.

Outside staff education is offered for staff of other institutions who would like to learn more about any of the areas in which The Storybook Center specializes.  Professionals can view the workshop and staff development sections for more information.  Or, to request a specific topic for discussion, please contact us at info@thestorybookcenter.com
