Classes
he Storybook Center provides educational services for children
1 to
5 and their families. Our motto is “. . . where happy endings are just the beginning. . .”
We stand
behind this motto by offering various classes with the focus on creatively shaping
early speech, language, literacy, and social skills through a strong children’s literature-based
curriculum and the social power of child peer models. Sign up now!
Classes are offered for children 1 to 5. The Storybook Center is unique in that we have an adaptable
curriculum that allows us to teach to each child's specific needs and
interests.
Each child over the age of one year who is
enrolled in The Storybook Center for the school year is given an
initial assessment from which a developmental profile is determined,
goals and objectives are created, and a Family
Education Plan is developed. If a child
already has particular goals from another source or therapist, The Storybook
Center incorporates those goals with its own.
Each child's personal developmental
learning goals
are implemented into our daily, literacy-based center activities of
story/circle
time, peer play, pretend play, reading, brain dancing, music, art, cooking
and lunch time, sensory exploration, yoga, early science and math, and discovery
time. Sign up now!
Peer interaction is at the center of the
learning environment. Each child has the opportunity to explore and
grow with his peers and to enjoy exciting stories all within our warm and nurturing
environment.
Many classes for
children pair speech with sign language. The teacher will talk and
sign at the same time. Children are not required to sign back.
It is not the method of communication but the communication itself that
we work to strengthen.
Classes are offered mornings Monday through Friday and
afternoons Monday through Thursday. They vary in length from 90
minutes, 2 1/2 hours, or 3 1/2 hours a day (depending on age level), and
most are offered up to 4 days a week. Children may attend two, three,
or four days per week.
Most classes participate
in our popular Growing a Reader take-home literacy program.

Learn with your babies, too! Classes for
children under one year old and their families are offered at various times
throughout the year. In these classes parents learn how to effectively communicate
with their baby through developmentally appropriate experiences in play,
music, and simple activities. Parents are taught basic sign language
and activities to do at home to encourage communication with their
baby. Each baby group allows time for families to share
their experiences and ask questions. Sign up now!
