Testimonials from Professionals
earn what other professionals are saying about The Storybook Center,
its director Jennifer Taylor, and its staff.
"I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Jennifer and can
attest to her wealth of skills and knowledge in the fields of early
childhood education, early childhood special needs education, and the
education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Jennifer is a creative, energetic, and enthusiastic teacher, who
naturally and 'effortlessly' (it would appear!) engages and supports all of
her students and their families in both center and home-based learning
settings. She brings her wealth of understanding and organization of
subject matter to instruction planning and designing learning experiences.
She develops programs based on the interest and needs of her students in
well sequenced activities incorporating appropriate materials. She has
been very successful in her creation and implementation of her
storybook-based curriculum. She has done a wonderful job making her
classroom an active, fun and safe environment that accommodates both
individual and group learning needs. By establishing and maintaining
standards for student behavior, she has established a climate that promotes
fairness, respect, and an eagerness for learning.
Jennifer is quick to establish and communicate learning goals for all of
her students (including those with multiple disabilities). She writes
Individual Family Service Plans and develops learning outcomes with her
families. She routinely uses multiple assessments to guide her
instruction. She assesses her students on a continual basis,
communicating the progress to their families and other care and service
providers. They have come to rely on, and respect, her positive
constructive, and timely communications.
Jennifer is extremely well versed in the subject matter
of Deaf and Hard
of Hearing (D/HOH) early intervention techniques and strategies, as well as
in the overall education of children with speech, language, communication
and social needs...When it comes to her own knowledge, she doesn't not stand
still. She is always learning, always alert to new trends, research,
information, etc. in her fields. She meets with other staff members to
discuss and share insight on teaching practices, protocols, and teaming.
She expands her knowledge base through professional development
opportunities such as workshops, coursework, seminars, and scholarly
journals. She has a strong tie with the community and reaches out to
community resources such as family private audiologists, ENTs, Implant
teams, pediatricians, OT and PTs, and other state and federally managed
programs.
The undisputable success of her students and the happiness and confidence
that is reflected in their and their parents' faces is a testimonial to the
kind of teacher Jennifer is. She is a 'natural' - an intelligent,
intuitive, enthusiastic, and committed woman. She is the kind of
teacher who "makes a difference". --

"I have worked with Jennifer closely regarding the placement of her
students in my oral preschool class at ____. Our program is one of the
programs that the children graduate to from Jennifer and her infant and
toddler program.
In all my contacts with Jennifer and the parents of her students I have
been impressed with the knowledge she has imparted to them regarding hearing
loss, amplification, language and speech development, appropriate education
and the educational implications of a hearing loss. She has
established a good rapport with the parents with her empathy, warmth and
concern.
Jennifer has high expectations for her students, and this is reflected in
the excellent language and speech skills of her students. Jennifer
also has high expectations for herself as a teacher: she spends many hours
in preparation for her classes and for her work with the parents.
Jennifer is highly skilled at the early childhood level with her two
credentials. Her early childhood education gives her a background in
other disabilities which is very valuable when working with any group of
children.
Jennifer has had a variety of teaching experiences at different levels
and has extensive experience in teaching reading. I highly recommend
you meet Jennifer and attend one of her classes!" C. Yannacone

"I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Jennifer for two
years and can attest to her wealth of skills and knowledge in early
childhood special education.
Jennifer has an M.A. degree in Education, a teaching credential in
Early Childhood Special Education and a teaching certificate in Early
Childhood Education from San Francisco State University. She came to
our program with extensive experiences in working with young children, birth
to 5, and their families. She showed a genuine interest in working with
young children with language and other needs and with their families.
We are also fortunate to have had Jennifer as our student teacher
supervisor. In addition to sharing her knowledge of effective
assessment and intervention techniques, Jennifer successfully prepares the
student teachers so they can be competent practitioners.
The faculty members in the Department of Special Education at SFSU are
proud of the quality of our teacher preparation programs. Students who
matriculate through the programs are skilled in all critical areas in ECSE,
such as family/parent involvement, intervention, assessment,, cultural
diversity, and transdisciplinary teaming. I firmly believe that
(anyone) will find Jennifer a competent professional, capable of working
with young children with language, communication and social needs and with
both parents and other service providers to enhance the development of young
children." S. Hsia, Ph.D., Coordinator, Early Childhood
