Our Toddler Sign Class is designed to serve the needs of parents and their young children who are 12 months or older. Those who have completed our baby sign classes but are under the age of 12 months are also welcome.  The group meets one time a week for 60 minutes.   Following completion of the first six week session, families can enroll in Toddler Signs 2. This way a family can take the first six weeks and at a later date take the next six weeks.

Toddler Sign Group goes far beyond learning signs that simply name common nouns such as "ball" and "Mommy."  Toddler Sign Group will review basic baby signs and sharpen how signs, gestures, body language, and speech intonation are used to build an understanding of abstract concepts for your toddler based on everyday experiences.  Parents will learn ways they can promote experiences in their toddler’s world to uncover abstract concepts such as “sticky” and “funny”.

Signs are a wonderful tool to reinforce abstract concepts.  Concept words are more challenging than learning names of objects because a concept word like “sticky” can refer to so many of any of a toddler’s experience-the gum on her shoe heel, the paint on her fingers, etc.

Our popular Storybook Packets are a part of the class materials and include a binder of signs and corresponding lessons, note cards, and several board books. The lessons are handed out at each class and incorporate the new signs of the day's lesson along with activities to help with review and practice.  The  board books are an enjoyable way to reinforce signs and vocabulary by practicing reading the books with toddlers.

Our next session begins soon.   Sign up now!  Tell a friend and get her/him enrolled and earn a discount for yourself!
