Teen Sign

Our apologies- This page is undergoing remodeling and updating. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact us by email or telephone. Thank you!

eens come learn sign language!  Our teen sign classes - designed for anyone 13 to 18 years -  are fun, creative, and informative.  Teens learn a new skill, build communication skills, strengthen study skills, and become better at expressing themselves.  Teens who want to learn a new language or who want an outlet for their dramatic flair will enjoy this class.

This group will meet twice a week for 90 minutes each time, for a total of 12 classes. This unique program is based on a minimum enrollment of four teens.  Sign up now!

Our classes are dynamic and include active participation.  Through these lessons teens learn more than just individual signs.  Teens will practice signing phrases, sentences, paragraphs, simple books, and songs of their choice.  The vocabulary of the lessons relate to their lifestyle and environment. Much of the vocabulary focuses on  school subjects, people, sports, hobbies, food, clothing, etc.

Our curriculum was developed from the one used by the creator of Signing Exact English, which is the same curriculum that many colleges, universities and workshops use. Signing Questions

Students will learn affixes so that they can sign prefixes and suffixes in order to sign completely accurate English sentences.  Many teens have found that they can apply their sign skills to help them in many of their classes, especially English and even SAT prep.  Part of our lessons are devoted to practicing finger spelling.  Finger spelling not only allows them the ability to communicate any word they want, even if they don't know the sign, but it also often helps to improve their spelling skills.  Another emphasis in the class is dramatics.  Teens have a place to be silly while still being cool!  Signing is much more than what we do with our hands.  It also has a lot to do with our body and facial expressions.

Teens receive a Storybook materials packet at their first lesson, which includes a workbook that correlates with the lessons and a pocket-size edition of the Signing Exact English (S.E.E.) dictionary.
