The Baby Sign Group is offered as a
6-week session, and meets one day a week for 50 minutes.
Following the completion of the first six-week session, families can enroll
in Baby Signs 2 for a further six-weeks of signing.
WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE:
We use a family-centered
approach by grouping signs specifically related to the family and its baby's daily routines
and needs. One week the group's focus might be on food, another on
bath or bed time, another on family or feelings, and so on. In
addition, most weeks the groups learn the signs to a familiar children's song.
Board books are given to families to keep and use to practice the
vocabulary.
Our popular Storybook Packets
include a binder of signs and
corresponding lessons, note cards, and several board books. The
lessons are handed out at each class and incorporate the new signs
of the day's lesson along with activities to help with review and practice. The board books are an enjoyable way
to reinforce signs and vocabulary by practicing reading the books with babies.
Our goals for our baby
groups are:
-
To help families
develop an understanding of the value and benefits of using signs for
daily interaction with their babies.
-
To develop the fluent, simple signing needed
to communicate with their baby.
-
To establish
appropriate facial expressions and body movements to support the words
spoken and signed to their babies.
-
To enhance early literacy
experiences for the entire family.
-
To have fun!
