Philosophy
e firmly believe that
early access to language exposure and usage is a critical part of young
children's development. Language skills and social
skills are very important for children in order for them to be able to
communicate effectively and to create and preserve effective relationships. The
Storybook Center has based its program on this premise.
By laying a foundation early, children will have solid ground on which to
build their successful academic and social learning.
The Storybook Center celebrates different strengths and challenges in
children and works with them to develop into happy, confident, social, and
communicative children. Our belief is that no child is broken or
disabled, merely differently 'abled'.
We believe play is
children’s work and that they learn best by playing and having choices with
what to play. The Storybook Center recognizes children are motivated by their peers and that language
and
communication skills develop within social
situations; thus, peer interaction is at the center of all that
the children do at the Storybook Center. We provide a
fun, safe, and nurturing environment
that encourages child exploration and
discovery with guidance and modeling provided by peers and the staff.
All
children have their own learning and communication style, be it visual,
auditory, kinesthetic, or tactile. The Storybook Center embraces all
of these, creating a sensory-rich
environment for language to develop.
The
family is recognized by The Storybook Center as the most important source of
children’s education. Our center believes in working with parents to
give families communication and language strategies to help uncover their
children’s communication style so that they can more effectively communicate
with one another.
We are
dedicated to deliver the finest programs, and, when appropriate, to provide optimal referrals
for the greatest possible progress for our students.
The Storybook Center values and encourages a collaboration with the
children's other service providers, a ‘partnership’ which can only benefit the
children and their families.
